Acupuncture models, paper dolls, and wiring diagrams influenced ‘Different Wiring’, a piece about differences between the sexes. The hand-built clay figures are inscribed with ‘energy meridians’ describing paths of sexual energy, a complex network for the woman, straight lines for the man. The male and female figures are finished with encaustic, have LED lights inserted through holes at the intersections of the energy paths, with wires exposed on the back. An steady red light for the man, and red-to-blue color-shifting LEDs (hot to cold) for the woman, bolster the idea.
