‘American Vernacular’
Most of my professional life in architecture has been spent designing houses. I have a deep love and appreciation for the vernacular tradition in American residential architecture. ‘American Vernacular’ is an homage to that tradition. The six houses comprising this piece are my distillations of house styles found across the country.
These small sculptures are rendered in bronze. Since creating these prototypes, I have referred to them for developing other work, adapting them in scale and material as needed. The houses in ‘American Vernacular’ have constituted a basic formal vocabulary for me which I have expanded over the years.
